Maui... The Valley Isle

Mount Haleakala
Most visitors to the Valley Isle arrive at the airport in Kahului which is the main commercial center of Maui. Next door is old, provincial Wailuku, where you can investigate Hawaiiana in the Maui Historical Society Museum. A ten minute drive gets you to verdant Iao Valley and its towering rock monolith.
Across the Island, on Maui’s idyllic eastern coast, near tiny Hana, is some of Hawaii’s finest scenery. The drive to Hana is one of soaring vistas, winding along the ocean past black sand beaches, isolated fishing villages, old lava flows, lovely waterfalls, dense jungle growth and lush groves of mango and monkey pod trees. Nearby is The Seven Pools, famous for its crystal pools.
On Maui’s western shore are long, sweeping beaches of golden sand and secluded coves; here’s where you find the popular resorts at Kaanapali, Kapaula, Wailea and Makena.
Sailing, deep-sea fishing charters and glass bottom boat charters are available in Lahaina. This fascinating town is Hawaii’s old royal capital and much of it has been restored as it was a century ago, vividly depicting the days of native royalty, missionaries and whaling men.
Maui’s most spectacular sight is the 10,000 foot Mount Haleakala, with its enormous volcanic crater large enough to hold Manhattan. From Haleakala’s rim, scientists from several universities and institutions are studying the sun and heavens, making an important contribution to America’s space program and scientific knowledge generally.
Mauians have a saying, “MAUI NO KA OI” or Maui is the Best! After visiting the Valley Isle, you’re sure to agree.

FUN GOLF
The Dunes at Maui Lani
/Untitled-9.jpg)
Golf Digest calls it “one of the five best kept secret golf courses in America”. The Dunes is a tribute to the great links courses of Ireland, where stunning dunes weave the golfer through amazing terrain. The layout begins on an old Maui plantation, winds through a secluded tree forest, then flows across brilliant green fairways contoured against massive sand dunes and changes in elevation. Heading in, the course turns toward the spectacular 10,000 foot Haleakala Mountain, where the finishing holes capture the beauty of the Valley Isle.
The Kapalua Bay Course
/Untitled-8.jpg)
The Bay Course calls the powerful Pacific its cam- panion. An Arnold Palmer design, the relaxed play of The Bay moves you through stately trees and lava peninsulas. It also has something that very few courses can claim: two ocean holes, the 4th and 5th, that offer the ultimate in coastline beauty...and destractions.
Royal Kaanapali Course
/Untitled-7.jpg)
Home of the Champion’s Tour Kaanapali Classic and host to Shells Wonderful World of Golf, the Canada Cup and LPGA Kemper Open, the layout is a Robert Trent Jones, Sr. design. The course combines wide fairways and undulating greens to make it both distinctive and demanding. You will enjoy panaoramic views of the ocean and the West Maui Mountains.
